2022 Sarah James Fulcher Redfish Tournament Recap

Event Summary

A Record-Breaking Year

This year’s SJF Redfish Tournament broke records across the board—anglers, boats, fundraising, prizes, and even surpassed last year’s world-record payout! With 988 anglers, over 100 youth participants, and 4,500+ attendees, we couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of our sponsors, donors, and volunteers—thank you!

Over 250 Red Drum Caught

Lines hit the water at 5 PM under clear skies, and the action started fast! Just 40 minutes in, 13-year-old Wilson Harrell of Fayetteville landed the first reported catch—a massive 52.5" red drum. “I was excited but scared at the same time, because we caught him so early,” Harrell said. “We waited for someone else to catch something bigger.” Harrell actually had the very first reported catch of the evening, and managed to hang on to the title until the clock struck 9:00pm, winning him a whopping $80,300! For an event that aims to connect local youth with the outdoors, there couldn’t be a more deserving winner.

Honoring Our Founders

It’s no secret that the success of the Sarah James Fulcher Redfish Tournament is much in part due to Hunter Parks and Stephanie Fulcher’s deep passion for the event. After their passing in February, many stepped up to try and help fill their shoes, in order to continue the event in which they helped start five years ago. The band stage at the tournament has been dedicated to the memory of Hunter Parks, and the silent auction in memory of Stephanie Fulcher, who was known to many of us as “Sissy”. Their physical presence will be deeply missed, but their memories will live on with the Sarah James Fulcher Redfish Tournament.

Thank you to everyone who made this unforgettable event possible!
